WP Sell Services has a native vacation mode, specifically because this scenario destroys marketplace trust at scale. Here is how it works:
- Vendor-controlled toggle: vendors flip vacation mode on from their unified dashboard, no admin ticket required
- Custom away message: vendors set their own return date and message, shown to any buyer who visits the service during vacation
- Services stay published: listings remain indexed, SEO is preserved, portfolio is still browsable, buyers can favorite for later
- New orders blocked automatically: the order button is replaced with the vacation notice, so no new orders slip through
- Existing orders continue: vendor still handles in-progress work, messaging, and deliveries, vacation mode only affects new intake
This pairs well with the 11 order statuses and deadline extension requests: if a vendor needs extra time on an existing order while heading into vacation, they formally request extension and the buyer approves inside the order.
Honest limit: there is no scheduled vacation (set start and end dates in advance and auto-flip). Vendors toggle it manually when they leave and again when they return. For seasonal marketplaces where you want to pre-schedule holiday closures, Pro adds scheduled publishing for services and service templates, which covers planned launches but not auto-scheduled vacation windows yet.
