WordPress theme with GeoDirectory integration for local listings

We run a local tourism community — members share and review places they have visited in our region. GeoDirectory handles the directory listings well, but the community side is where we struggle. I want members to be able to mark favorite places from their profile tab, have new places and reviews show up as activity in the member feed, and get notifications when someone reviews their submitted place. Most themes treat GeoDirectory as a standalone plugin and do nothing to bridge it into the social layer.

Reign ships a dedicated reign-geodirectory addon that is literally a bridge between GeoDirectory and BuddyPress. Concrete integrations that match your requirements one-to-one:

  • A My Places tab on member profiles with a configurable layout option, so every member has their submitted places visible on their own profile
  • BuddyPress activity generation for three GeoDirectory events: new places, favorite places, and place reviews — so the community feed fills with location events automatically
  • A notification system for new places and place reviews, so submitters are pinged when their listings get attention, which is exactly the engagement loop you described
  • Favorite place marking with activity generation, so tapping Favorite on a place also feeds the community stream rather than being a silent bookmark
  • PeepSo compatibility for the single place UI, a clean location categories UI, and Youzify place icon compatibility if you use Youzify profiles instead of vanilla BuddyPress

Honest limits: the addon handles the community-side bridge and UI. Map providers, paid GeoDirectory extensions, and core listing logic remain with GeoDirectory. The addon is WPCS-compliant across all files if your team reviews code before rollout on a production tourism site.
